Q: What do students need to bring to the testing site?
A: Students must bring a CURRENT GOVERNMENT ISSUED PHOTO ID and a number 2 pencil.
Q: What are the requirements to take the NHCO national certification exam?
A: Student must be at least 18 years of age, and have a High School Diploma, or equivalency, as well as one of the following:
- Student must have worked within the last year in the field of certification for a minimum of one year.
- OR
- Student must have attended an NHCO approved Phlebotomy Training & Certification program.

Q: How soon will students receive exam results?
A: Students can have their exam scored on the spot if they so choose, or they their scores will be sent in, and scores will be sent by email directly to students along with applicable certificates and certification cards. This takes approximately 7-10 business days, an email will also be sent upon test correction.
Q: Can I retake the test if I do not pass?
A: Yes – Candidates who do not pass their exam the first or second attempt can retest after thirty days. If you do not pass after your third time challenging the examination, you will have to wait six (6) months to challenge the exam again.
Q: What do I receive upon completion?
A: Once the test has been corrected you will be emailed a certificate. You will have the option to have your exam graded in class using our proprietary grading system which provides an immediate score. It will not however give you a breakdown of the sections of the examination and your scores within each.
Q: How often do I have to renew my certification? And can I pay for more than one year at a time?
A: The NHCO requires 12 hours of continuing education to renew every 2 years. If you have 1,040 hours of verified work experience in the prior two years you can renew without doing continuing education. This is part time work, consisting of 520 hours per year.
Q: How do I reschedule to take the exam?
A: A candidate who wishes to reschedule the exam should do so two (2) days PRIOR to the examination date. If you do not do so two (2) days before the testing date. Failure to reschedule the examination (now show, no call) will result in forfeiture of testing fees and necessitate reapplying to take the exam. to reschedule please email [email protected]
